How Often Do Bible Verses Make You Laugh Out Loud?

I just love this translation of Proverbs 6:6-11 in the NLT. How often do verses in the Bible make you laugh out loud?

“Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones.
Learn from their ways and become wise!
7 Though they have no prince
or governor or ruler to make them work,
8 they labor hard all summer,
gathering food for the winter.
9 But you, lazybones, how long will you sleep?
When will you wake up?
10 A little extra sleep, a little more slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest—
11 then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit;
scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.”

  1. Adam G. says:

I know I’ve laughed, but can’t remember when or why.

  2. Just Matt says:

Everytime I read song of solomon ; )

  3. “Open rebuke is better than secret love”

    Proverbs 27:5

Is this the official blogger’s verse?

  4. Philip III says:

There are a few indelicate passages in Ezekiel that come to mind…

And, of course, who could forget Numbers 12:3. Supposedly authored by Moses, it reads:

“Now Moses was a very humble man, THE most humble man on the face of the Earth.”

  5. @philip

In Ezekiel, are your referring to “donkeys”?

  6. Shannon says:

What about the story in 1 Kings when Elijah is being mocked and called a bald-head, and he send bears to attack them?

  7. Rachel Drow says:

I guess this is a little late in replying, but it’s a good topic!

Acts 26:24 in the middle of Paul’s speech to the governors about his testimony and Jesus Christ:

At this point Festus interrupted Paul’s defense. “You are out of your mind, Paul!” he shouted. “Your great learning is driving you insane.”

I also recently was reading Jonah and couldn’t stop laughing about how much like a pouty child he sounded after God shriveled up the tree that was giving him shade. But that’s just like us!

Jonah 4:9 But God said to Jonah, “Do you have a right to be angry about the vine?”
“I do,” he said. “I am angry enough to die.”

And of course, Job 38 and 39. Where do you think man got his sense of humour from if it not God? Surely it’s not a sin to laugh every now and then.
