How Would You Encourage Someone to Preach?

Less and less people are wanting to preach. It has been a problem for years. There are so many reasons for that but that isn’t what I want to tackle in this post. I would like for those of you who preach to comment on this post giving some reasons or examples of how or why preaching ministry has been a blessing and a benefit to the kingdom through your ministry. I don’t think we hear enough of this so have at it in the comments section!

To me, preaching is a mystical moment where God and his people come together. It can’t be recreated, so each sermon is a unique experience of a specific group with certain experiences at a precise time. I think most preachers would say that the act of preparing a sermon seems more a blessing to the preacher than it is to the church.
One example comes to mind. As an interim preacher in Montana, I was privileged to empower a church to reach out to Christian brothers and sisters in the area and reconcile wounded relationships that had been festering for years.

Every job has it’s perks and benefits and down sides. I hear many people try to tell horror stories. I can tell everyone that I have always been treated well.
To be a preacher you need to love people, love the Lord, and want to make a difference. I am not sure how my ministry has impacted people but I know that ministry has impacted me. I love being a minister because it is who I am, not what I do. I tell everyone I am not paid to preach, I am supported to preach. That is to me a huge difference. If you don’t love preach, then you are going to hate preaching. It is not a 40 hour a week job. It is a way of life.
