New LIFE Group Series – Practical Christian Living

I am writing up a new curriculum for our small groups on practical Christian living. We are going to be focusing on using the Bible to help us formulate our thinking and behavior on a variety of issues many of us encounter on a regular basis (consumerism, effects of the media, homosexuality, dealing with non-Christian family and co-workers, pornography, and many more). The first lesson is going to be about the inspiration of the Bible. If we don’t have some commonality on that it will be hard to trust the Bible for guidance.

What would you want to see covered in such a class?

    I am so glad to hear when churches begin to talk more about ‘practical Christian living.’ I am preaching on John 13.1-17 (Jesus foot washing) and it really strikes me that the some of the most important lessons Jesus wanted his people to learn had more to do with daily living and much less to do with the minute details of Christian doctrine (and that is not to deny the place learning and discussing doctrine). Yet, as I prepare this sermon, I know that most of the people I will be preaching to have grown up in the Church of Christ where the energy spent on orthopraxy pales in comparrison to the countless energy spent of ironing out every last detail of Christian doctrine (something which Jesus compared to straining a gnat while swallowing a camel – Matt 23.23-24).

    * Discussion on what inspiration means

    * Infallibility? Inerrancy?

    this is something I’m working on too. I hope to start a “tribe” in my home in the new year to discuss these things life-to-life.

    I have some free resources for spiritual practices to integrate Christian Spirituality into everyday moments. I’ll be adding more as I get the chance. Hope you’ll visit my blog. Please weigh in on post, where you’d like
